I contacted the seller and got no reply, so I don't think there is any way I am going to get it resolved. I'm not sure if this had to do with the product, seller, or website, but I never got my order.
As a white citizen of the US, without reading this autobiography and perhaps Eldridge Cleaver's SOUL ON ICE, one just cannot know the FIRST THING about what it means to be BLACK IN AMERICA. And if you are black and you have not read this book, I just don't know what I can say except you may have missed the best book there is that explains what your life means. It SHOULD be REQUIRED READING for ALL high school students before earning a diploma. READ IT. Again, I'M WHITE. I read this book in 1969 or 1970 and it remains one of a small number of MOST INFLUENTIAL BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ.
I read the Autobiography to find out more about this enigmatic Black leader from the 1960s. In the process we discover a journey from the rough streets of jaded morality, to the principles of a self-sacrificing leader. So, as an American, I decided I ought to swallow this bitter pill, in hope of doing my part to cure the country.
Haley knows how to write a bestseller-novel, and the Autobiography has just such a pace. I only have one concern (and I don't know how scholars would reply): how much of the conversion to peace and love was Malcolm's and how much of it was Haley's own desire for peace. The pages fly by.
When you live in a sick society, you need to take political medicine. Even if this man did not eventually turn out to be the famous Malcolm X, his story would be an illuminating and exciting one, thanks to the skill of Alex Haley. That concern aside, read this book for a great story and learn about a remarkable man in the process.
Much to my surprise, this book doesn't taste bad: it is a culinary delight. I wound up reading a remarkably gripping tale--one man's incredible journey.
anything, at all, from a well rounded intellect to a lowly ignoramus, this book should be immediately important to you.
I would suggest reading it, but do remember to bring with you patience.understanding.and more patience. I enjoyed reading this book 3 times and it will be a part of me forever. Finally, a child of God (who ever you wish to call the Lord by) named El Hajj Malik El Shabazz was born and with this birth came the revelation that Brother Malik came to know, that we are created equally in God's Image and we have the capacity to love and respect one another no matter what Race, Religion or Creed we respond too.
This book is inspiring and a challenge to absorb. It expanded to the time of a young hustler who was called Detroit Red, who stole and developed a narcotics addiction due to the evironment he was lost in without any faith in a God. This book is well written and interesting.
The story evolves further to a man named Malcolm X that aside from his hatred (which in most all ways was justified) was an extraordinary example of an individual with the ultimate discipline and self-respect, respect for others and a powerful persona and image. If you do, you will be able to take in one of the great life stories of any time in American History. It has its place in the great works of Literature that have been conceived from the first moment of Humankind's Intellect and emotion.
It begins with a confused and impressionable young man named Malcolm Little.
